Biography

Grandson of Théodore Botrel through his mother Jannick Botrel, Renaud Le Gonidec de Tressan aka Renaud Detressan is also known as a founding member of the group Soldat Louis under the name Gary Wicknam. Born in Lorient (Morbihan) on November 16, 1956, he grew up in a family of artists and was introduced to music at an early age. Author, composer, guitarist and performer, he made a name for himself under the Detressan moniker with the album On Est Comme On Est (1981), produced by Bernard Estardy, which went on to become a hit of the same name. The following year, his second album for the Pathé label, Y'Aura Toujours Quelqu'un... Dans Un Coin, included the equally popular song "Italienne ". Three years later, Carré Noir (1985) was recorded, with a large team of musicians including François Bréant (keyboards), Patrice Tison (guitar), Michel Gaucher (saxophone), Bernard Paganotti (bass) and Bernard Estardy (keyboards). In 1987, he changed his name to Gary Wicknam to form the Celtic rock band Soldat Louis with his guitarist Serge Danet, a band that became very popular after the release of their debut album Première Bordée (1988). At the same time, Renaud Detressan picked up his solo career where he left off, between chanson, pop and rock, with the albums La Couleur du Vent (2005), Airs de Famille (2009) and B-52 (2018). In 2008, he paid tribute to his grandfather with the Gary Circus Band for a cover of his grandfather's classic "La Paimpolaise".
