Reem Kelani, born in 1963 in Manchester, England, is a British Palestinian musician who began singing at age four. Her interest in Palestinian music was sparked by attending a family wedding in Galilee during the 1970s. She turned professional in 1990 and released her debut solo album, Sprinting Gazelle: Palestinian Songs from the Motherland and the Diaspora, in 2006. Kelani performed with Guy Barker on BBC World Service's World Cafe in 2003, blending George Gershwin's "The Half of It, Dearie' Blues" with traditional Palestinian singing. She led a tour of Syria in January 2007, performing at the Opera House in Damascus and the Directorate of Culture in Aleppo. Her notable works include Live at the Tabernacle (2016).
