Soul, jazz and pop vocalist Rebekah was born Rebecca Johnson in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3, 1976. She is best-known for co-writing Kelly Clarksonâs âBeautiful Disasterâ and her own hit single âSin So Wellâ. She has also written and recorded under the name Rebekah Jordon. Johnson released her debut album, Remember to Breathe, in 1998. The album featured the singles âHey Geniusâ and âSin So Wellâ, which reached Number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Even after that success, she left the label due to creative differences and signed with Clive Davisâ J Records. After three years, no recordings were released and she asked to be released from her contract. In 2003, a song she co-wrote with Matthew Wilder, âBeautiful Disasterâ, was recorded by Kelly Clarkson and featured on Clarksonâs debut album Thankful. As Rebekah Jordan, she released the 2005 EP The Trouble with Fiction. The release featured musical assistance from Butch Norton on drums and John BaIlinger on guitar. The following year, Johnson, Norton, and Ballinger formed a band called Dreaming Ferns and released a limited EP entitled Youâre A Spark. Moving to Brooklyn, New York in 2009, Johnson began writing with artists like John Legend and Alice Smith. Johnson released her Souvenir EP, which was nominated for an Independent Music Award in 2011. Johnson then began collaborating in the studio with a variety of artists, adding her vocals to releases by Rockie Fresh, The KickDrums, and Venice Dawn. In 2013, six songs that she had co-written were released on Alice Smithâs She album. One of those tracks, âAnother Loveâ, was reinterpreted and recorded by Prince and 3rdeyegirl on their album Plectrumelectrum (2014).
