Biography

Singer, guitarist, and composer Rashid Ali - born in Hyderabad, Telangana, India – is best known for his 2008 hit “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi”, which he performed (as playback singer) on the soundtrack to the romantic comedy Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Although born in India, he was brought up in London, England. Interested in music since a young age, his tastes were diverse. He studied rhythm guitar for a year but taught himself to play lead guitar. Discovered by musician and Bollywood film composer A.R. Rahman, Rashid Ali began working on some of Rahman’s films beginning with 2001’s Parthale Paravasam. He achieved his greatest success in 2008 when he performed the track “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” for the film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. He was nominated for many Best Playback Male Singer awards in 2008 and 2009. Rashid Ali also provided playback vocals for other films including Blue (2009), Jhootha Hi Sahi (2010), Ek Deewana Tha (2012) and Raanjhanaa (2013). He released his debut non-playback album, Call Me Rashid, in 2012. He continued to perform as a playback singer as well as becoming more involved with social media and releasing his music on several streaming platforms.
