Biography

Rasheeda Widad Buckner-Frost (May 25, 1982), known mononymously as Rasheeda, is an American hip-hop performer and reality TV star from Atlanta, Georgia. She began her music career with the female rap trio Da Kaperz in the late 90s and made her debut as a solo artist with the album Dirty South in 2001. Despite the success of the hit single "Do It," Dirty South didn't perform as expected and Rasheeda was released from her contract with Motown Records shortly after its release. Boasting a more aggressive sound, the independently-released A Ghetto Dream followed in 2002, but it failed to enter any charts in the US and was considered a commercial flop. After a four-year break from the music industry, she signed with Big Cat Records and returned with the club-oriented GA Peach (2006), which debuted at Number 81 on the Billboard 200. Much of the material featured on GA Peach would reappear in Rasheeda's fourth full-length, 2007's Dat Type of Gurl. In 2009, the Atlanta native returned with not one but two releases: the mixtape Certified and her fifth album Certified Hot Chick. Subsequently, Rasheeda jumped to fame thanks to her involvement with the reality TV program Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, which gave her career a much-needed popularity boost. Preceded by the single "Marry Me," sixth album Certified Boss Chick appeared in 2012 and was heavily promoted on the show.
