Ramesh Mishra, born on October 2, 1948 in Varanasi, India, was an Indian sarangi player. He received his initial music training from his father Ramnath Mishra and continued his education under Hanuman Prasad Mishra and Gopal Mishra before becoming a student of Ravi Shankar. In 1959, Jawaharlal Nehru sent him on a cultural mission to Pakistan. Throughout his career, Mishra performed internationally as both a soloist and accompanist. He contributed to notable albums such as Inside the Kremlin (1989) by Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan's Grammy-nominated Legacy (1996). His work also appeared on Aerosmithâs album Nine Lives (1997), where he played the sarangi intro for "Taste of India". Other collaborators included Zakir Hussain, Subhen Chatterjee, and Girija Devi. In 2008, Mishra was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He passed away on March 13, 2017 in New York City due to cancer.
