Ralph Harold Lundsten, born on October 6, 1936 in Ersnäs, Sweden, was a Swedish composer, film director, and author, known for pioneering work in electronic music. In the 1950s, Lundsten began constructing electronic musical instruments and experimenting with sound, positioning himself among the earliest pioneers of electronic music in Sweden. He released a first EP, Fyra kompositioner av Ralph Lundsten, in 1964. Throughout his career, he released over 80 albums, often exploring themes related to nature, Nordic mysticism, and futurism. Notable albums include Elektronmusikstudion Dokumentation 1 (1966), MUMS (Musik under miljoner stjärnor) (1967), and Tellus. Fågel Blå (1969). The composition "Ut i vida världen" (1979) gained widespread recognition as the interval signal for Radio Sweden International's shortwave broadcasts. In 2008, he received the Illis quorum medal from the Swedish government in recognition of his cultural impact and contributions to the arts. Lundsten died on July 5, 2023.
