Biography
Rafael Antonio Lázaro Puyana Michelsen, known as Rafael Puyana, was a Colombian harpsichordist born on October 14, 1931, in Bogotá. He began piano lessons at six and debuted at Teatro Colón de Bogotá at thirteen. At sixteen, he continued his studies in Boston and later moved to Lakeville, Connecticut to study with Wanda Landowska. Puyana's notable albums include The Golden Age Of Harpsichord Music (1962) and Italian Harpsichord Music (1969). He collaborated with composers like Julián Orbón. Puyana received significant recognition, including the Orden de Boyacá from Colombian President Carlos Lleras Restrepo in 1967 and the Orden de Isabel la Católica from King Juan Carlos I of Spain in 1996. He passed away on March 1, 2013, in Paris.
