Biography

Philippe Huttenlocher, born on November 29, 1942, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is a bass-baritone. He initially studied violin before transitioning to vocal training with Juliette Bise in Fribourg. In 1972, Huttenlocher won the Bratislava singing competition, marking a significant breakthrough in his career. His early collaborations included working with the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne and Michel Corboz, focusing on Baroque repertoire. Huttenlocher's career spanned various roles in operas such as L'Orfeo at the Zurich Opera, where he debuted in 1974. Notable performances included Valentin in Gounod's Faust, Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan tutte, and Golaud in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. His discography includes works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and collaborations with conductors like Jean-François Paillard, Helmuth Rilling, and Marc Minkowski. In 1994, he began directing choirs and orchestras, notably participating in the Fête des vignerons in Vevey as Bacchus in 1999.
