Proud Mary, an English blues/rock group formed in Manchester in 1998, emerged from the local music scene with founding members Greg Griffin (lead vocals) and Paul Newsome (guitar, vocals). Their breakthrough came with the 2001 single "All Good Things" and "Very Best Friend", which established the bandâs reputation for melodic rock. In 2001 the duo released their debut studio album The Same Old Blues, produced by Noel Gallagher, and the albumâs title track and "Very Best Friend" became staples on UK radio. The followâup Love And Light (2004) featured collaborations with Andy Rourke and included fan favourites "Hats Off" and "Mexico". After a brief hiatus prompted by touring demands and Newsomeâs relocation to Los Angeles, the band returned with Ocean Park (2010) and Pilgrim Fields (2013), both showcasing joint songwriting efforts. In 2020 the fifth studio effort Songs from Catalina was released on 26â¯June, recorded over five months in Majorca, and preceded by the single "Lazy Days and Loaded Nights" (1â¯Mayâ¯2020). Throughout their career, Proud Mary supported major acts such as Oasis, Paul Weller, and Neil Young, and their releases have consistently charted in the UK independent charts, cementing their place in contemporary British blues-rock.
