Biography

Poetic Lover is a French R&B group formed in 1997, made up of brothers Carry Kani (born Rudy Desbonnes) and Jay Kani, Dré and Little T. Revealed by the TV show Graines de star, they made a name for themselves with their first single, "Prenons notre temps", which became a real hit in France, reaching #5 on the charts and certified platinum. The group distinguishes itself by its meticulous vocal harmonies and gospel choir style, blending R&B, soul and pop. In 1998, Poetic Lover released their debut album Amants Poétiques, at No. 8, which included the acclaimed tracks "Qu'il en soit ainsi" (No. 10) and "Fier d'avoir ton love" (No. 22). The album was well received, making them one of the most popular French R&B groups of the late 1990s. The same year saw their collaboration with singer Carole Fredericks on "Personne ne saurait" (No. 12). Despite this initial success, the quartet experienced internal tensions which led to a split in 2000. They reunited briefly for a tour in 2003, but without the same success. Since then, the members have moved on to solo careers or left the music industry. In addition to occasional appearances on nostalgia shows, Poetic Lover returns in 2019 with the track "Hip hop culture", a tribute to another musical influence, rap.
