Biography

Piano Magic was a British musical collective from London established in 1996. The group consisted of the musicians Glen Johnson, Jerome Tcherneyan, Alasdair Steer, Franck Alba, and Paul Tornbohm. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by ambient pop and post-rock and for operating as a project where recordings were based around a small nucleus and various contributors. The ensemble was founded by the musician Johnson, the musician Dominic Chennell, and the musician Dick Rance. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Popular Mechanics (1997) released on the label i (label) and the label Ché Trading. Piano Magic achieved professional recognition for receiving airplay on the John Peel radio program. Their discography included the studio recording Low Birth Weight (1999) and the studio recording Artists' Rifles (2000). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for signing with the label 4AD and releasing the soundtrack studio recording Son de Mar (2001). Their recording career included the studio recording Disaffected (2005) which achieved professional recognition for receiving significant international attention. Piano Magic achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Closure (2017) which featured guest appearances by the musician Peter Milton Walsh and the musician Audrey Riley. The group became inactive in 2017 following a final concert at the venue The Lexington.
