Biography

Born in Delhi, India, singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt was the son of two British civil servants. When the family returned to England in 1954 Sarstedt and his brother Robin did what many other musically inclined young men did: they started a skiffle group. From these humble beginnings Sarstedt went on to play bass for his elder brother, the pop star Eden Kane, before signing a solo deal with United Artists and releasing 'Where Do You Go to My Lovely' in 1969, topping the charts in 14 countries. On the back of this one hit song, Sarstedt's pop career burned brightly for a very brief period and the singer had just one further chart entry with the follow-up single 'Frozen Orange Juice' released later that year. The single reached number ten in the UK. The lack of widespread commercial appeal didn't prevent Sarstedt from having a long career in the music business though, and over a 50-year period the artist released 15 albums. His final album 'Restless Heart' was released in 2013 shortly before he moved into a retirement home. He died in January 2017 aged 75.
