Biography

Peter Neumann (born 8 March 1940 in Karlsruhe) was a German church musician and conductor. After studying church music and orchestral conducting in Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Berlin and Paris, he became assistant to Michael Schneider at the Cologne Academy of Music in 1967 and later led the choir of the Carthusian Church. He founded the Kartäuserkantorei in 1982, winning the Gran Premio Città di Arezzo that year with the Kölner Kammerchor. His recordings include Coronation Mass/Missa Solemnis (2003), Brahms: Liebeslieder – Walzer (2012) and Mozart: Krönungsmesse (2013). In 2015, he received the Bach Medal of Leipzig, and he taught organ at the Cologne Academy until his death on 27 August 2025.
