Biography
Paul Hofhaimer, born on January 25, 1459, in Radstadt, was an Austrian organist and composer of the Renaissance era. He received his initial musical training from within his family, possibly from his father. In 1480, Hofhaimer secured a position as a chamber organist at the Innsbruck court of Siegmund von Tirol. His career took him to various courts across Europe, including Dresden under the patronage of the Saxon dukes and later to Passau and Augsburg under Emperor Maximilian I. After Maximilian's death in 1519, he moved to Passau before relocating to Salzburg in 1522, where he served as a Domorganist until his death in 1537. His notable achievements included being knighted by Maximilian in 1515 and receiving the title of "Erster Organist des Kaisers". His compositions included the pieces "Ave maris stella" (1495) and "Tristitia vestra", as well as the collection Harmoniae poeticae (1539).
