Parachute is an American popârock band originating from Charlottesville, Virginia, formed in 2006 by childhood friends Will Anderson (vocals, guitar, piano) and Johnny Stubblefield (drums); the group later added Kit French (keyboards, vocals, saxophone), David Glover (guitar), Alex Hargrave (bass), and Nate McFarland (guitar, vocals). The band first gained attention with the EP Winterlove in 2009, followed by their debut studio album Losing Sleep on 19â¯Mayâ¯2009, produced by Chris Keup, John Shanks, and John Fields; the single "She Is Love" was later certified platinum on 30â¯Juneâ¯2017. After signing with Mercury Records in Augustâ¯2007, Parachute released The Way It Was on 17â¯Mayâ¯2011, debuting at number 19 on the Billboard 200 and number 7 on the Rock Albums chart, and the single "What I Know" was offered as a free iTunes download. The third album, Overnight, appeared on 13â¯Augustâ¯2013 and peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200; the lead single "Can't Help" was written by Will Anderson and Ryan Tedder and performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2016, Vanguard Records issued Wide Awake, which reached Number 1 on the Pop chart and amassed over 50â¯million Spotify streams. The band independently released a selfâtitled album in Mayâ¯2019, and since 2017 members have pursued individual projects, with Will Anderson focusing on family life.
