Biography
Pacific Gas & Electric, an American blues rock band, was formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 1967 by guitarist Tom Marshall, bassist Brent Block, lead guitarist Glenn Schwartz, and drummer Charlie Allen. Initially known as The Pacific Gas and Electric Blues Band, they shortened their name upon signing to Power Records and released their debut album Get It On in early 1968. Following a performance at the Miami Pop Festival in December 1968, the band was signed by Columbia Records. Their first album for Columbia, Pacific Gas & Electric, was issued in 1969, but it was their subsequent release, Are You Ready, in 1970 that achieved greater success. The title track "Are You Ready?" reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. After a series of lineup changes and internal conflicts, the band changed its name to PG&E following pressure from the utility company of the same name. They toured extensively in Europe, opening for acts like Pink Floyd and Brian Auger & The Trinity. However, health issues led to the band's dissolution in 1973. A final album, Pacific Gas & Electric Starring Charlie Allen, was recorded by Allen with studio musicians and released on the Dunhill label that year.
