Guyanese-born Canadian musician Ourielle Auvé is better known by the mononym Ouri. Her music is a compelling blend of eclectic styles and regional influences, owing largely to her own upbringing as a musical globetrotter; she started training in piano, cello, and harp at the age of 5 while living in France, then left to Montreal, Quebec, at age 16 to explore the world of electronic music. Over the course of a few years, Ouri became a prominent fixture in Montreal's local music scene. This period of experimentation â performing as a DJ, collaborating with a wide assortment of musicians, and producing other artists â led to the development of her unique musical textures. This musical education was documented through the release of her EPs Superficial (2017) and We Share Our Blood (2019). During this period, she toured with musicians such as Jacques Greene and Yves Tumor, while also collaborated with Canadian singer-songwriter Helena Deland on the project Hildegard. Ouri's musical evolution culminated with the release of her studio debut Frame of a Fauna in 2021, a widely acclaimed release that made waves with audiences and critics alike. The album was released under Ouri's own imprint, Born Twice. Frame of a Fauna earned accolades due to its rich blend of heady jazz, industrial electronic music, and lush orchestral textures and was longlisted for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize.
