Biography

Oslo Sinfonietta, a Norwegian contemporary music ensemble, was founded in 1986 by composer Asbjørn Schaatun. The ensemble emerged from contemporary music circles at the Norwegian Academy of Music and evolved into a pool of musicians drawn from prominent orchestras. In 1993, Oslo Sinfonietta began showcasing important works composed during the 20th and 21st centuries, commissioning and premiering new pieces by both Norwegian and international composers. In 1999, the ensemble won the Spellemannprisen award in 1999 for the album Boyl with music by Rolf Wallin. Notable albums include Codex Temporis (1995), Faces (2000), Objects of Desire (2002), and As Dreams (2016). Oslo Sinfonietta has performed regularly in Norway and internationally, including at festivals such as the Casa da Música Festival in Porto and the Présence Festival in Paris.
