Orchestra Super Mazembe, a popular band in Kenya that played Lingala (Soukous) music, was formed in Zaire in 1967 under the name Super Vox. Led by Longwa Didos Mutonkole, the group moved to Nairobi in 1974 and changed its name. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Shauri Yako", a cover version of a song first performed by Nguashi Ntimbo & Festival Du Zaire. The band released several albums, including Mazembe (1980), Kaivaska (1982), and Wabe-Aba (1984). In 2006, after most of the original members had died, the group renamed itself Orchestra Bana Mazembe.
