Norichika Iimori, born on May 17, 1963 in Kamakura, Japan, is a conductor. He studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo under Seiji Ozawa and Jean Fournet, completing his studies in 1986. After further training in Berlin, Iimori served as an assistant to Wolfgang Sawallisch at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich from 1989 to 1991. Upon returning to Japan, he became principal conductor for the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 1994 and directed the Opera House Orchestra in Osaka in 1995. From 2001 to 2007, he served as General Music Director of the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, conducting their Japan tour in 2006 and recording multiple albums, including all of Beethoven's symphonies. Iimori made his US debut with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra in 2005 and directed the Japanese premiere of Hans Werner Henze's opera Upupa. In April 2023, he became the chief conductor of the Gunma Symphony Orchestra in Japan.
