Laila Darboe, known professionally as Layla, is a German rapper born in Münster. Raised with Deutsch-Gambian roots, she began writing her own songs at nine, influenced by her father's reggae DJ performances and her mother's gospel singing. In 2019, Layla started sharing short song clips on Instagram, which were described as emotive R&B. Her debut single "Choppa" was released in January 2020, produced by AgaJon, and quickly garnered over One Hundred Thousand streams within two weeks. Layla's subsequent releases included "Hustla", and various singles spanning different genres such as Bedroom-R&B with "24/7". Her debut EP TRABOE was released in April 2021, featuring collaborations with producers like Rascal. Notable performances include festivals such as Melt and Splash. In 2023, she released the singles "Waterloo" and "Taste".
