Biography
Nina Kotova is an American cellist who was born in 1969 in Moscow, USSR. She began studying at the Moscow Conservatory at age seven and later graduated from a conservatory in Cologne. Kotova made her Western debut in 1986 at Smetana Hall in Prague performing the Elgar Cello Concerto. She signed with Philips Classics and released her eponymous debut studio album, Nina Kotova, (1999). Her recordings include the albums Bloch, Bruch, Kotova: Nina Kotova-Cello Concerto (2002), Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 (2008), and Bach: 6 Suites for Cello Solo (2014). Kotova has performed with major orchestras at the Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonic, collaborating with artists including Vladimir Jurowski, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Sting. She co-founded the Tuscan Sun Festival in 2003 and served as its artistic director until 2013. She has taught as an artist in residence at the University of Texas and is a professor at the International Academy of Imola.
