Biography

Nicolas Paugam, born 27 February 1970 in Nantes, France, is a French chanson singer whose early exposure to music came from a theatrical mother and a musically inclined stepfather. He began playing guitar at nineteen while living in Puy‑en‑Velay and later formed the group Les Syncop’s, later renamed Da Capo, with his brother Alexandre; the band released four albums between 1997 and 2012. Nicolas Paugam’s solo debut Aqua Mostlae appeared in 2014, followed by Mon Agitation (2015), Boustrophédon (2017), Le ventre et l’estomac (2019), Padre Padrone (2021), La délicatesse (2023), and La balade sauvage (2024). Nicolas Paugam’s repertoire features collaborations with J. P. Nataf and a reinterpretation of Georges Brassens’ Bécassine. While chart positions remain modest, Nicolas Paugam’s work has been noted by Télérama for its lyricism and sonic diversity.
