Youn Sung-ho (born November 10, 1976) is a South Korean comedian and DJ, best known for his monk-inspired EDM persona, NewJeansNim. Originally gaining fame as a comedian with his character Pakgu on Gag Concert, Youn transitioned into music, blending Buddhist themes with electronic dance music (EDM). In 2023, he introduced his monk character on YouTube under the Buddhist name Iljin, later receiving the name Newjin at Jogyesa Temple. Stylized as NewJeansNim, his fusion of Buddhist scriptures with EDM beats quickly gained popularity in South Korea, earning praise from the Jogye Order and attracting a younger audience. His performances, which combine spiritual elements with high-energy dance music, have taken him to international stages, though some appearances, including in Malaysia and Singapore, have faced backlash over religious sensitivities. Despite controversies, NewJeansNim continues to shape the EDM scene with his unique approach.
