Biography

A key part of the US underground scene for over 20 years, Mudhoney stood alongside Soundgarden and Sonic Youth as pioneers of the grunge movement thanks to their fierce brand of heavy, primitive, DIY, alternative rock. Formed after the demise of small time punk/metal act Green River and named after a Russ Meyer film, they became one of legendary independent label Sub Pop's first success stories when debut Mudhoney (1989) helped bring the "Seattle Sound" to mainstream press attention. Their influence inspired Nirvana to grow into the biggest band in the world, while Mudhoney remained a cult force with acclaimed albums Superfuzz Bigmuff (1990), Piece Of Cake (1992) and My Brother The Cow (1995). Though fashions changed and the media turned after the death of Kurt Cobain, the band remain a ferocious underground force led by front man Mark Am and guitarist Steve Turner and released their ninth studio album Vanishing Point in 2013.
