Monique Haas, born on October 20, 1909 in Paris, was a French pianist who began her musical education at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1923. She graduated with a first prize in 1927 and gave her debut concert in 1928, performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel, and Fauré. Haas was known for her interpretations of 20th-century composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Enesco, and Bartók. She premiered several contemporary works and toured extensively, including performances in Australia, the United States, China, the USSR, Armenia, Poland, and Romania. Notable recordings include Ravel: Piano Concerto in G Major/Debussy: Toccata /Bartok: Sonatine/Roussel: 3 Pieces for Piano (2004) and Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 23/Brahms: Variations on a Theme By Haydn (2005). Haas also served as a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1967 to 1970 and passed away on June 9, 1987.
