Biography

Chris Breheny, known professionally as Moncrieff, is an Irish singer-songwriter and musician whose emotive sound blends elements of soul, blues, and pop. Hailing from Tramore, County Waterford, he began his musical journey as a teenager following the tragic loss of his older brother and sister to cystic fibrosis. Music became his outlet to process grief and channel his emotions. Initially pursuing law, Moncrieff shifted his focus to music at 19, relocating from Berlin to London to study songwriting at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP). His breakthrough came when Elton John played his debut single on his Beats 1 radio show, propelling him into the spotlight. He later contributed backing vocals for Adele and was featured on BBC Radio 1. In 2022, he released his EP Warm, which topped the Irish radio charts and earned him the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Song of the Year in 2023. His music, often described as "neo-noir-soul," is characterised by introspective lyrics and a powerful vocal delivery. Moncrieff's artistry continues to resonate with audiences, blending personal storytelling with universal themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. He poured everything into his debut LP of 2024, selfcare, followed by 2025's sophomore effort, maybe it's fine.
