Biography

Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, known professionally as Minnie Pearl, and born on October 25, 1912, in Centerville, Tennessee, was a comedian and country singer. She began her career teaching dance before transitioning to theater. In 1940, she debuted as Minnie Pearl at the Grand Ole Opry, where she performed for over 50 years. Her character, a satire of rural Southern culture, became iconic with her signature flowered hat and dress. Throughout her career, Minnie Pearl released several albums including Howdy! (1960) and Lookin' fer a Feller (1967). She also appeared in various television shows such as Hee Haw from 1969 to 1991. After battling cancer, she became a prominent advocate for cancer research. Minnie Pearl passed away on March 4, 1996, at the age of 83.
