Biography
Mindflayer, a noise rock band from Providence, Rhode Island, was composed of Brian Chippendale and Mat Brinkmann. The duo emerged from the Fort Thunder collective, with much of Mindflayer's identity rooted in obscure Dungeons & Dragons references. Mindflayer released their albums Live and It's Always 1999 in 2001. In 2003, they released Take Your Skin Off, which featured cover art resembling the squid-like faces of Illithids. Die & Mold Services was released in 2004, and their album, Expedition to the Hairier Peaks, followed in 2005. Mat Brinkmann's use of a circuit-bent analog synthesizer was a notable aspect of their sound.
