Biography

Michiko Myfanwy Sellars, known professionally as MiChi, was born on 7 April 1985 in Bromsgrove, England. She is a Japanese British pop singer who began her career as an independent artist before signing to Sony Music Entertainment. At the age of two, she moved to Kobe, Japan with her family but returned to England in 1995 following the Great Hanshin earthquake. MiChi released her first track "Surrender" on the compilation Freedom House Mode Collection in March 2007. Her independently released English language album Michi Madness entered the Japanese Oricon weekly albums chart, peaking at number 148. In 2008, she officially debuted under Sony Music Entertainment with her first single "Promise," which peaked at number 12 on the Oricon weekly charts. Her second single, "Change the World" was released in February 2009 and used in the drama Kiina: Fukanō Hanzaisōsa-kan. MiChi's major label debut Up to You proved extremely successful, peaking at number 4 on the Oricon weekly album chart. Following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, MiChi released the single "One," which peaked at number 85 on the Oricon charts. Her second major label album Therapy was released in 2012 and was followed by Eyes Wide Open a year later.
