Biography

Michael Lewin is an acclaimed English classical musician whose talent on the guitar and lute has allowed him to perform a wide repertoire from modern composers back to the 16th century. He has made many recordings and has worked steadily as a teacher with the current post of head of guitar at the Royal Academy of Music where he studied from 1967 to 1971 and became a professor in 1977. He has performed internationally as a soloist and with the foremost orchestras and ensembles in venues across Europe including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and La Piccola Scala in Milan. He has collaborated on recordings with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists under John Eliot Gardiner and with film composer Trevor Jones. He has given masterclasses at Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music, Finland's Sibelius Academy, the University of Bologna, and France's Conservatoire Nationale Superieur de Musique et Danse. He has also taught summer courses at Scandiano and Siena in Italy, the Koblenz International Guitar Festival in Germany and the Campos do Jordao Festival in Brazil.
