Melanie Williams, born on October 28, 1964, in the United Kingdom, is a British singer. Her music career began with her involvement as a guest vocalist for the Manchester-based electronic group Sub Sub on their hit single "Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)". This exposure led to further critical success and collaborations. Williams co-founded Square One Studios in Bury, Greater Manchester, where she recorded tracks assisted by house engineer Stephen Boyce-Buckley. In 1987, under the name No Sovereign, they released the single "Showdown" on Geffen Records. This was followed by a recording contract with 10 Records, a sub-division of Virgin Records, leading to the release of their self-titled album Temper Temper in 1991.
Williams launched her solo career in 1994 under Columbia Records, releasing her debut single "All Cried Out!", which peaked at Number 60 on the UK Singles Chart. Her follow-up single "Everyday Thang" reached the UK top 40, peaking at Number 38. Subsequent releases included the ballad "Not Enough?" and her debut album Human Cradle. In early 1995, Williams returned to the UK top 40 with a cover of "You Are Everything", a duet with Joe Roberts, which reached Number 28. Williams and Roberts collaborated again in 2001 as Dark Flower, releasing the album Feed My Soul, and later as Bodhi and Butterfly Jam, releasing several tracks including the single "Wag" in 2014. Additionally, Williams featured on Adrian Snell's album Father, reading Psalm 139.
