Biography

Megumi Hinata (日向めぐみ) is a Japanese singer, lyricist and composer whose career spans more than two decades. She began playing piano at four and developed an interest in songwriting during her elementary years, later honing her craft in the United States before returning to Japan. Megumi Hinata’s professional debut came in 1998 under the moniker Gumi, when she released the single "Catch You Catch Me" on April 22, which served as the opening theme for the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. In the following years, she released the single "Baby Low Tension" on February 23, 2005, and continued to contribute to anime soundtracks, notably "Natsu no Mukogawa" for UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie in June 2005. She adopted the stage name meg rock in 2004 and released the album Loveboat, followed by mighty roller coaster, both under this persona. Her work extended beyond performance; she produced tracks for artists such as Chieko Kawabe and Shoko Nakagawa and translated songs between English and Japanese. Throughout her career, Megumi Hinata maintained a steady presence in J‑pop, with singles and albums charting on the Oricon rankings and earning recognition for her contributions to anime music and the broader Japanese pop music scene.
