Biography

Marti Caine (born Lynne Denise Shepherd; 26 January 1945 – 4 November 1995) was an English comedian, actress, dancer, presenter, singer, and writer from Sheffield. Caine won the television talent show New Faces in 1975 and later hosted the series' revival between 1986 and 1988. From 1979 to 1984, she starred in her own variety series, Marti Caine. Caine recorded five albums, beginning with Nobody Does It Like Marti (1976). She collaborated with Karl Jenkins on the albums Behind the Smile (1978) and The Lady's Gonna Sing (1979), the latter featuring the track “Quiet Please, The Lady's Gonna Sing”. In 1981, she released the album Point of View. Caine published her autobiography, A Coward's Chronicles, in 1990. Caine died in Henley-on-Thames on 4 November 1995 from lymphatic cancer. Sheffield Hallam University awarded her an honorary doctorate the same year.
