Mark Hetzler (born 1968) was an American classical and jazz trombonist, pedagogue, and composer from Sarasota, Florida. Hetzler received a bachelorâs degree from Boston University and a masterâs degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. He joined the Empire Brass Quintet in 1996, performing internationally until 2012 and appearing on the albums Firedance and The Glory of Gabrieli. Hetzler performed with ensembles including the Minnesota Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Between 2000 and 2004, he served as a faculty member at Florida International University and Lynn University before becoming a professor at the University of WisconsinâMadison. His solo discography on Summit Records included American Voices (2002), Serious Songs, Sad Faces (2003), Three Views (2013), and Themes and Meditations (2017). Hetzler also performed with the groups Mr. Chair and Sinister Resonance.
