Biography
Maria Veniaminovna Yudina was a Soviet classical pianist born on September 9, 1899, in Nevel, Russian Empire. She studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory from 1912 to 1921. Yudina performed with the Petrograd Philharmonic Orchestra in 1921. She taught at the Leningrad Conservatory until 1930 and at the Tbilisi Conservatory between 1932 and 1934. In 1936, she began teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. Yudina recorded the musical piece âPiano Concerto Number 23â by Mozart for Joseph Stalin in 1943. Her repertoire featured works by Bach, Beethoven, and Dmitri Shostakovich. She faced professional restrictions due to her religious beliefs and signed the Manifesto of the 343 in 1971. Yudina gave her final concert in 1969 and died on November 19, 1970, in Moscow. Posthumous releases included the series The Legacy of Maria Yudina and the recording Beethoven: Piano Sonatas.
