Biography

Marcelo Bratke is a Brazilian pianist born on September 6, 1960, in SÃ£o Paulo. He began studying piano at age 14 and debuted at age 16 with the Orquestra SinfÃ³nica del Estado de SÃ£o Paulo, earning the APCA RevelaÃ§Ã£o award in 1976. His international career commenced at the 1988 Salzburg Festival, leading to performances at venues such as Suntory Hall and Carnegie Hall. Bratke has collaborated with conductors like Alexander Lazarev and engaged in crossover projects with artists including Milton Nascimento and Julian Joseph. In 2004, he founded the Villa-Lobos Worldwide project to promote the composer's work, including recordings of his complete solo piano music. He established the youth orchestra Camerata Brasil in 2008, which has performed over 300 concerts internationally. Since 2015, Bratke has presented the radio program Alma brasileira. He received the Order of Cultural Merit in 2017 and later directed the 2021 documentary series MÃºsica no meu jardim.
