Manfred Scherzer, born on June 2, 1933, in Dresden, Germany, was a violinist who began his musical journey at age five under his father's tutelage. At 17, he joined the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and later became the first concertmaster at the Komische Oper Berlin under Walter Felsenstein. Scherzer's international career as a solo violinist commenced with a performance of Tchaikovskyâs "Violin Concerto", followed by his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
He served as the first concertmaster and soloist at the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig from 1973 to 1975. Scherzer also founded and directed the Dresdner Kammerorchesters and Berliner Virtuosen. In 1976, he was appointed professor at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. His discography includes several albums, notably a CD released in 2007 featuring historical recordings from 1971 and 1977. Scherzer passed away on December 1, 2013, in Berlin.
