Discovered by chance on a remote Texas farm in 1960, this simple sharecropper went on to establish himself as one of the finest black songwriters, performing folk songs, blues, ragtimes and ballads with equal joy and conviction. Mance Lipscomb's gentle voice, impeccable guitar playing, finger picking (strings played with several fingers of the right hand) and warm personality made him very popular with white audiences on college campuses and at folk festivals.
