Biography
Luke Slater, born 12â¯Juneâ¯1968 in Reading, United Kingdom, is a British electronic musician, DJ, and record producer who has focused on techno since the early 1990s. After early exposure to his fatherâs reelâtoâreel tape recorder and drumming, he worked in local record shops such as Jelly Jam in Brighton and began DJing at Londonâs Heaven nightclub in 1988. Slaterâs first single, "Momentary Vision", appeared in 1989, and he subsequently released material under aliases including Planetary Assault Systems and LSD, with a series of releases on Peacefrog Records. In 1997 he issued the album Freek Funk, followed by the album Wireless in 1999 and the album Alright On Top in 2002, the latter featuring vocal contributions from Ricky Barrows. The tracks "All Exhale" (2000) and "Nothing at All" (2002) reached number seventyâfour and number seventyâzero respectively on the United Kingdom Singles Chart. Slater launched his own label, MoteâEvolver, in 2006, and in 2014 began the podcast The Spacestation. His discography includes the Fear and Loathing mix series and a Fabric DJâmix. Throughout his career, Slater has collaborated with artists such as Depeche Mode and Ken Ishii, and has continued to release music under his own name and various pseudonyms, maintaining a steady presence in the techno scene.
