Biography

Lou Pérez was born on June 21, 1928, in New York City to parents from Puerto Rico and Cuba. He started his musical career playing the bass before transitioning to other instruments. In the early 1960s, Pérez formed his own band during the charanga craze in New York. His solo career included successful album releases such as Para La Fiesta Voy (1961) and Bon Bon de Chocolate! (1962). Pérez's music gained notable recognition when "De Todo un Poco" from his 1977 album of the same name was featured on the soundtrack of the hit movie Dirty Dancing in 1987. Throughout his career, he recorded 15 albums and composed music for films and commercials. Pérez died on May 27, 2005, at the age of 76, following injuries sustained from a car accident in Manhattan.
