Los Tupamaros, a Colombian tropical music orchestra founded in 1976 in Bogotá by Fernando Jaramillo Paredes, emerged as an alternative to Los Ocho de Colombia, quickly gaining popularity with hits like "La chica gomela" and "De mujer a mujer". Their debut album Terrorismo rumbero was released in 1977. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Los Tupamaros achieved significant success with albums such as La calle de la rumba (1990), El baile de la quebradita (1993), and Para que bailen (1995). The band won five Congos de Oro at the Carnaval de Barranquilla, notably in 1991. Their music continued to be celebrated until Jaramillo's death on January 15, 2014.
