Biography

Los Shapis, a Peruvian musical group founded on February 14, 1981 in Chupaca by Jaime Moreyra and Julio Simeón, are pioneers of chicha music. Their first concert took place at the Coliseo Regional de Chupaca. In 1983, they moved to Lima. The group released their debut album Los auténticos in 1982. In 1985, Los Shapis performed at the Festival de la Juventudes Nor Sud 85 in France. Their notable albums include Dulcemente... ¡Chicha! (1986) and Rica Chicha (1987). They received numerous accolades, including the "La Pluma de Oro" from the Congress of the Republic in 2003. Their impact on Peruvian music culture is undeniable.
