Biography

Los Donneños was a Mexican norteño duo formed in the 1950s by Ramiro Cavazos and Mario Montes. The artists originated from General Terán, Nuevo León, and met while working as migrant laborers in Donna, Texas. The ensemble was named after the town and consisted of Cavazos on lead vocals and bajo sexto and Montes on second voice and accordion. On specific recordings, the duo was joined by string bass player Rafael Gaspar. Los Donneños recorded for Falcon Records and performed for audiences on both sides of the United States-Mexican border. During the 1970s and 1980s, Cavazos operated a record store in McAllen, Texas. After the duo became inactive, Cavazos continued performing with other musicians and participated in the 2010 project Los Amigos Desde el Rancho alongside Hector Montemayor and Lorenzo de Monteclaro. Montes died on January 28, 1993.
