Lili Kraus, born on April 4, 1905, in Budapest, Hungary, was a pianist who began playing at age six. She studied at the Royal Conservatory of Budapest under Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók. In 1922, she moved to Vienna for further studies. Lili Kraus married Otto Mandl in 1930 and started touring extensively as a soloist and chamber musician with Szymon Goldberg. During World War II, she was imprisoned by Japanese forces from 1943 to 1945 but resumed her career post-war, performing over 120 concerts in Australia and New Zealand within 18 months. Notable recordings include Mozart Concertos For Piano & Orchestra (2004) and Mozart: The Complete Piano Sonatas (2005). Lili Kraus passed away on November 6, 1986, in Asheville, North Carolina.
