Biography
Martin Leo Rowsome, born on April 5, 1903 in Harold's Cross, Dublin, Ireland, was an Irish uilleann piper. He began learning the uilleann pipes at a young age and by sixteen, he was teaching the instrument at Dublinâs Municipal School of Music. Rowsome released several singles throughout the 1920s and 1930s, including "Job of Journeywork // God Save Ireland / Soldier's Song" (1925). He formed musical groups such as the All Ireland Trio and his Pipes Quartet in the mid-1930s. Rowsome was the first uilleann piper to perform on Irish National Radio and BBC TV. His notable albums include RÃ na bPÃobairÃ: The King of the Pipers (1959). Rowsome died suddenly on September 20, 1970 while adjudicating a competition.
