Biography

Henry Lee "Shot" Williams, born May 21, 1938, was an American blues singer. He moved to Detroit in 1954 and later to Chicago in 1958, where he began singing with his cousin Little Smokey Smothers' band in 1960. Williams recorded his first singles "Hello Baby" and "I'm Trying" for the Foxy label in 1962. His breakthrough came with the regional hit "You're Welcome to the Club" in 1964, which was later covered by Little Milton. In 1995, his album Cold Shot - Sings Big Time Blues was voted the Best Blues Album of 1995 by Living Blues readers' poll. Williams continued to release notable albums such as Hot "Shot" (1996), She Made a Freak Out of Me (2000), and Somebody's After My Freak (2001). He signed with CDS Records in 2008. Williams passed away on November 25, 2011.
