Laurie Zeluck Carter, known professionally as Laurie Z., was an American pianist and electronic musician born on October 12, 1957. Early in her career, she recorded for Malcolm Cecil's Electronic Music Publishing House, contributing to early MIDI recordings. Her debut album Window to the World was released in 1992 under her independent label Zebra Productions. Laurie Z.'s second release, Life Between the Lines (1995), was named New Age Album of the Year by Scott Brodie of CHRW-FM, Canada, in 1995. She toured extensively, opening for artists like Herbie Hancock and Leo Kottke, and performed at major venues such as the Troubadour and Roxy. Subsequent albums include Roots: The Solo Piano Album (1997), which was considered for eight Grammy nominations, and Heart of the Holidays (2001). Laurie Z. passed away on February 9, 2006.
