Esa Juhani Ruoho, known professionally as Lackluster, was born on October 26, 1978, in Helsinki, Finland. He is a producer of electronic music who began composing in the mid-1990s and released his first album, CDR#1, in 1999. Ruoho's early work included releases such as CDR#2 (1999) and Foc349 (2000), which established him within the electronic music scene. Throughout his career, he has released numerous albums and EPs on various labels, including deFocus Records, Merck Records, and U-Cover. Notable releases include Container (2000), Wrapping (2002), and The Invisible Spanish Inquisition (2011). Ruoho has also collaborated with other artists, such as Heikki Lindgren in the duo HLER, creating improvised ambient drone music. His work has been featured in various media projects, including a web report for Helsingin Sanomat titled "Utopias of Helsinki." Ruoho has performed extensively across Europe and North America, supporting acts like Biosphere and The Orb.
